Police smash six-man motorcycle robbery gang in Enugu

The Enugu State Police Command has smashed a six-man robbery gang that specialised in snatching motorcycles at gunpoint in the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Enugu.

Ndukwe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the command recovered one Kingstone motorcycle with number plate ML 231 QD; one Qlink motorcycle with number plate UWN 824 QP; and one Carter motorcycle without number plate from the gang.

He said that the feat was achieved by the Commissioner of Police’s Monitoring Team on March 3, sequel to intelligence and complaints on the nefarious activities of the gang.

Ndukwe, who gave the names of the suspects as Michael Odumukwe, 34; Eze Izuchukwu David, 24; Elechi Chukwuemeka, 27; Sunday Chinwetalu, 28; Christopher Chielo, 67; and Adimora Uzoechi, 27, explained that the suspects were residents of Ebe, Enugu-Eke village, Amankwo-Eke, Oma-Eke, Emu-Eke and Nsude, respectively, in the Udi Local Government Area of the state.

The PPRO stated, “Following complaints against the principal suspect, Odumukwe, that he snatched the complainant’s Carter motorcycle at gunpoint, personnel of the CP Monitoring Team traced and arrested him on March 1, 2020, around 5pm at Ebe village in the Udi LGA of Enugu State.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect revealed the identities and locations of members of his syndicate, who had been receiving the motorcycles and other property he snatched from his victims.

“Immediately, the CP Monitoring Team stormed a bunk in a bush of the same Ebe village in the early hours of March 3, 2020, where the other five suspects were arrested.”

Ndukwe added that the suspects would be charged as soon investigation was concluded into the case.
